Huging Face has released an open analogue of Openai Deep Research to collect data from the network

The Huging Face developers team announced the creation of the open version of the Deep Research tool, represented by Openai. This tool, which received the similar name Open Deep Research, is an alternative to Openai development, which is so far available only to a limited circle of paid subscription users.

Openai Deep Research, presented literally the other day, allows you to collect research reports on any topic, analyzing data on the Internet. However, its use is available only to CHATGPT Pro subscribers for $ 200 per month. In response to this, the Huging Face team developed its AI-agent called Open Deep Research, which uses the Openai O1 model and an open framework system that helps AI plan to plan data and interact with search engines. According to TechCrunch, referring to the words of the developers, the model exceeds the results of “reasoning” analogues, in particular Deepseek R1.

The new tool is able to move autonomously over the network using a simple text browser (displays only the text of the web page, ignoring graphic content) and a set of tools to analyze the text. Researchers claim that Open Deep Research can scroll the pages, manipulate files and even perform calculations with data. In the tests of the GAIA benchmark, which evaluates the JI general-purpose Assistant, the project received 54 %, which is slightly inferior to the result of the original DEEP Research from Openai-67.36 %.

In an attempt to test Open Deep Research, the TechCrunch journalist faced technical problems due to the high load on the server. However, the developers assured that they continue to work on improving the performance of the model and have already posted the source code on GitHub in order to receive feedback from the community.

It is interesting that despite the emergence of many attempts to reproduce Openai Deep Research, none of the open models can still be compared with the original, since it does not use the O3 model. This AI model remains a leader in tasks related to answers to complex questions and collecting information, and its API interface, unlike the Openai O3-Mini model, is not available. According to experts, until such a model will appear in the public domain, alternatives like Open Deep Research are unlikely to completely compete with the original development.
