Huawei will abandon Windows in its next generation laptops in favor of its HarmonyOS

Huawei seems ready to ditch Windows in favor of the HarmonyOS operating system. Huawei Consumer Business head Yu Chengdong, better known as Richard Yu, recently revealed that Huawei’s next-generation PCs will come preloaded with HarmonyOS software instead of Windows. Thus, the current generation of Huawei laptops may be the last PC running on a foreign operating system.

Yu believes Huawei should stop using Windows amid US sanctions. The company was blacklisted in the US in 2019 and has since suffered losses due to the unavailability of advanced technologies, chip manufacturing tools and modern software. Now the company is aiming to become independent by creating a new OS without foreign components.

Yu recalled that Huawei has long begun to reduce its dependence on foreign components. He noted that the company still used some American technologies, but is now working to completely abandon them.

Currently, HarmonyOS is the main OS for various Huawei wearable devices, from smartphones to smartwatches. But the company’s computers and laptops continue to run Windows. Now, against the backdrop of increasing sanctions, the release of our own OS for PCs seems to be a logical and justified step.

Many users believe that Windows is not a reliable enough OS and hope that HarmonyOS for PC will be a safe and effective replacement. While it is unclear whether the new OS will be used only in the home market or whether the company will begin promoting it worldwide, we will have to wait for the official launch of HarmonyOS for PC.
