Huawei Unveils Pura X Flip Phone with 16:10 Display for $1050

Huawei has unveiled the most unusual clamshell smartphone of recent years — Pura X has a unique design with increased width, which allows you to conveniently use the device both horizontally and vertically. Unlike traditional clamshells, the new product has a wider body, and its screens fit organically into the overall design concept.

The smartphone’s internal display measures just 6.3 inches diagonally, but the aspect ratio is 16:10 – like many modern laptops. The resolution of this AMOLED LTPO 2.0 display is 2120 x 1320 pixels, and the adaptive refresh rate dynamically changes between 1 and 120 Hz. The screen has a peak brightness of 2500 cd/m², supports HDR, and uses PWM brightness control with a frequency of 1440 Hz.

Richard Yu, CEO and Chairman of Huawei’s Consumer Business, noted that the Pura X’s widescreen display gives the device many advantages over traditional smartphones. According to him, the new device significantly improves the comfort of viewing online content: the visible area for short videos is increased by 40%, and for images and text – by 60%. The internal screen provides 30% more usable area compared to smartphones with an aspect ratio of 16:9.

The device’s outer square display has a diagonal of 3.5 inches, a resolution of 980 × 980 pixels and a peak brightness of 2500 cd/m². It is based on an LTPO AMOLED panel with an adaptive refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz and support for HDR content. Next to the outer screen is a system of four cameras: the main 50 MP with an f/1.6 aperture and an RYYB sensor, a telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom, a 40 MP wide-angle camera and a color sensor. There is also a 10 MP front camera in the hole in the main screen.

Pura X runs on the latest HarmonyOS 5 operating system, which offers a new ecosystem of native apps thanks to a redesigned kernel, an improved Ark engine, and full cloud integration. Software performance has been improved by 40% compared to the previous version of HarmonyOS.

The smartphone uses artificial intelligence based on the Pangu model, supplemented by DeepSeek models for the voice assistant. Another feature based on generative AI is eye tracking, which allows users to turn pages on the screen by looking.
