Huawei introduced the world’s first three-fold folding smartphone – Mate XT for $2800

Huawei has officially unveiled the world’s first smartphone with a flexible display, two hinges and three doors – it’s called Mate XT. The device will go on sale in China at a price starting from 19,999 yuan ($2809); the company is not yet talking about the device’s entry into the global market, reports Android Authority.

One of the hinges folds the Huawei Mate XT outwards, the second – inwards, giving a Z-shaped design. When fully folded, the outer screen is the left 6.4-inch display section, and the thickness of the device is 12.8 mm – only slightly larger than the double-leaf Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 with its 12.1 mm. When unfolded, the thickness of the device is 3.6 mm.

The Huawei Mate XT screen can be partially unfolded into two doors and you get a 7.9-inch diagonal, and when fully opened it reaches 10.2 inches. This is an LTPO OLED matrix with a resolution of 2232 × 3184 pixels, which corresponds to an aspect ratio of 16:11. The panel also has an ultra-thin protective coating.

The original form factor did not force Huawei to make any compromises regarding the battery – its capacity is 5600 mAh. It supports 66W wired and 50W wireless charging. The manufacturer did not specify which chip the new product runs on, but perhaps it is its own Kirin 9010 with 5G, which was used in the Huawei Pura 70 model.

On the rear panel there is a trio of cameras: a main one with a 1/1.56-inch 50-megapixel sensor and an aperture from f/1.4 to f/4.0, a wide 12-megapixel (f/2.2) and a 12-megapixel periscope with 5.5x magnification; in the through cutout of the left flap of the display there is also an 8-megapixel front-facing one for taking self-portraits and video calling – it can be used when the phone is both folded and unfolded.

There are also Bluetooth 5.2, an infrared port, and the software platform is HarmonyOS. The smartphone comes with a stand case, Huawei FreeBuds 5 headphones, as well as network (66 W) and car (88 W) chargers. An optional folding keyboard is available. The manufacturer has not yet said anything about plans to release Huawei Mate XT outside of China.

The basic version of Huawei Mate XT with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage in China is priced at 19,999 yuan ($2809), and the top of the line is the version with 16 GB of memory and 1 TB storage for 23,999 yuan ($3371).
