Huawei Captures Almost Half of China’s Foldable Smartphone Market – Samsung Only Fifth

Huawei not only dominates the Chinese foldable smartphone market, but continues to strengthen its leadership. Analysts from IDC calculated that Huawei sold more than 2.5 million foldable smartphones on the domestic market in the fourth quarter of 2024, which allowed the company to occupy 48.6% of the market. According to the results of the first quarter of 2025, the company shipped more than 2.8 million such devices, due to which the vendor’s share jumped to 76.6%.

Huawei posted an impressive 53.1% year-on-year growth, which is especially notable given that Q4 saw a 9.5% year-on-year decline. Huawei’s growth comes as other foldable smartphone makers have seen their sales decline. Honor was the biggest loser, with its share falling from 20.6% in Q4 2024 to 9.1% in Q1 2025.

Oppo is in third place in the ranking, with its share growing from 5.3% in Q4 2024 to 7.1% in Q1 2025. Previously, third place was occupied by Vivo, which did not even make it into the IDC ranking for the first quarter. Xiaomi’s share has also dropped significantly, from 7.4% to 2.6%.

Probably, the downward trend in sales of these brands’ devices is due to the fact that Xiaomi and Vivo have not released new smartphones with a flexible display for quite a long time. As for Huawei, last year the company released the world’s first three-fold smartphone with a flexible display Mate XT Ultimate, as well as devices with a flexible screen Mate X6, Pocket 2 and Nova Flip. This year, the manufacturer has already brought to the market a new product in the form of an unusual clamshell Pura X.
