HMD Unveils Wireless Earphones With Case That Can Act As A Wireless Power Bank

Smartphones and wireless headphones are considered paired devices when it comes to transmitting audio, but HMD has found another point of contact between them when it comes to using them, introducing the Amped Buds headphones, whose case can act as an external wireless battery for charging your smartphone.

To implement this idea, it was enough to increase the body of the headphone case and equip it with a 1600 mAh battery and support for the Qi wireless standard. Such an accessory can be attached to the body of many smartphones that support Qi2 and MagSafe, or are equipped with compatible cases. The headphone case can be charged via the USB-C port. The capacity of the standard battery is enough for ten charges of the headphones or 95 hours of continuous music playback.

The headphones themselves are inserted into the case from the end and fixed with spring-loaded fasteners. The case body is 14 mm thick and is protected from dust penetration according to the IPX4 standard, the headphones themselves are splash-proof according to the IP54 standard.

The accessory is available in three color options: lilac, azure, and black. HMD is planning to launch it in April at a price of 200 euros. The headphones support active noise cancellation technology.

The idea is not without practicality. Smartphone owners who are accustomed to using wireless headphones still carry them in a case, and in this case it can also act as an additional battery for the smartphone itself. Of course, the case for headphones cannot be called thin or elegant, but this is the price for increased autonomy.
