Hackers are hunting Path of Exile 2 users – hacking into accounts and stealing valuable items

The developers of the fantasy role-playing action game Path of Exile 2 from the New Zealand studio Grinding Gear Games (GGG) have already left for the New Year holidays, but a crisis has emerged in the community of the new game regarding the security of accounts.

As noted by the Wccftech portal, users of Path of Exile 2, which has recently been in early access, have been complaining in recent weeks about their accounts being hacked and valuable in-game items disappearing.

For dedicated Path of Exile 2 fans, the situation is especially frustrating, as many of these items in the later stages of the game require a lot of time (grinding) to obtain.

It is reported that attackers are managing to rob Path of Exile 2 users by bypassing Steam’s two-factor authentication. Even with notification from Valve, victims of hackers find their inventory emptied after logging in.

How exactly the hackers gain access to the victim’s account is unclear. Members of the official Path of Exile forum suspect third-party applications, but the situation also affected those who do not use them.

Contacting GGG technical support to return the stolen items does not help – moreover, the studio blocks the account of the hacked user during the investigation. The developers have not yet officially commented on the situation.

Path of Exile 2 early access started on December 6 on PC (Steam, EGS, separate client), PS5, Xbox Series X and S. At this stage, you have to pay for the game (from 1100 rubles on Steam), and with a full release the project will become conditional -free.
