Grok 3 Launch to Boost Demand for AI Servers

Recent advances in AI have heightened competition among key global players, especially after the launch of Grok 3, a model presented by Elon Musk’s xAI and claimed to be the most productive in the world today. Experts predict that its launch will be a catalyst for growth in sales of AI servers, DigiTimes reports.

The xAI development team emphasized that advanced AI models require no less powerful accelerators for effective inference than for training. The new AI models are designed to run on NVIDIA GB200 and GB300 platforms, which will play a decisive role in changing the “landscape” of modern artificial intelligence. The GB300 variant is scheduled to be presented at the end of 2025.

According to Foxconn, DeepSeek’s success has made the process of training models more democratic. This means not only that AI training will require fewer resources and, therefore, servers, but also that demand should grow. Now servers will be in demand not only by classic cloud providers and HPC system operators, but also by mid-sized companies – thanks to this, the demand for equipment will only increase.

Limited GB200 shipments have already been announced for Q4 2024, but full-scale production is not expected to begin until late Q1 2025. Quanta expects “triple-digit” growth in AI server sales in percentage terms in 2025.

Wistron also predicts that AI server sales will continue to grow “triple-digit” in 2025, as previously expected. The company supplies Dell server racks and Super Micro Computer motherboards, both of which sell xAI servers. Industry sources say demand for AI platforms, including the GB200, remains strong, with active shipments of H100 accelerators also noted. The impact of the GB300’s launch in late 2025 remains to be seen.

Although ASIC-based servers have attracted attention since the premiere of Deep Seek solutions using them, experts point out that they rather complement than replace servers with classic accelerators. Compared to conventional ones, ASIC options have greater customization capabilities, which allows them to handle some user tasks more effectively.

One way or another, there are other opinions regarding the future of the AI server market. Just the other day, information appeared that experts predict a cooling of the corresponding market in 2025.
