Google’s Gemini AI Assistant Will Appear in Cars, Smartwatches, and Headphones

Over the past couple of years, Google has been actively integrating the Gemini AI chatbot into its products: Gmail, Android, Google Drive, and other services. By the end of the year, the chatbot’s presence will expand — it will appear on the Wear OS platform for smartwatches, Android Auto for cars, and in wireless headphones.

During a briefing after the company’s quarterly financial results, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai announced that Gemini will soon be coming to more devices: “We’ll update the Google Assistant on mobile to Gemini, and later this year we’ll update tablets, cars, and devices that connect to your phone like headphones and watches.” This year’s Google I/O developer conference is scheduled for May 20–21, where the company may elaborate on its plans to expand Gemini’s presence.

Google Gemini is already the default assistant on most Android devices, but it’s not yet available on tablets, Wear OS watches, or Google smart speakers and displays. The company’s plans were confirmed by an analysis of beta versions of some apps. For example, code fragments were found in the Google app indicating that Gemini will appear on Wear OS as a “wearable” assistant — likely as an update to the existing Google Assistant app. The company will initially update the app only, and then strengthen the integration with the release of Wear OS 6.

A recent release of Google Assistant for Android Automotive revealed lines that indicate Google is working hard to bring Gemini to the automotive platform as well. The company is developing AI models tailored to new areas with big growth potential, including robotics, Mr. Pichai added.
