Google will make using TV more intuitive and useful by adding Gemini neural networks to Google TV

Google TV will gain integration with the Gemini neural network, making the user experience with the TV “more intuitive and rewarding,” Google announced at CES 2025. With an update to Google TV coming this year, users will be able to search for content and ask questions without having to start with the phrase “Okay, Google,” writes The Verge.

To search for media, all you have to do is ask: “What are the latest Disney movies?” You can also ask more general questions, such as “What are the best places to visit in Asia in the summer?”, and Google TV will show results from YouTube. Integration with a neural network will also allow users to interact with smart home devices, providing the ability to view the video stream from the doorbell, dim the lights and perform other actions. The company added similar Gemini functions to the Google TV Streamer set-top box, released last year.

In addition to integrating Google TV with Gemini, the company equips TVs using its operating system with long-range microphones, allowing you to control the TV directly with voice commands, without the need for a remote control. TVs with Google TV will also have proximity sensors that will detect when the user is near the TV and show “personalized and informative widgets” with weather information or news.

We add that LG and Samsung have announced plans to use Microsoft Copilot AI assistant in their TVs.
