Google Updates Gemini: AI Assistant Starts Remembering Past Conversations

Google has introduced a new feature for its AI assistant Gemini that lets it remember previous conversations and use that context in its responses. The update is available to Google One AI Premium subscribers and allows them to continue a conversation with the AI without having to be reminded of the details. The new feature is already available in the English version of Gemini’s web and mobile app, with support for other languages and integration with Google Workspace expected in the coming weeks.

In addition to remembering context, the new feature allows users to request short summaries of previous conversations, which simplifies working with information and makes Gemini a more convenient tool for long-term tasks that require consistent analysis of data. For example, users can track changes in their requests or quickly recall previously discussed ideas. Previously, Google implemented a mechanism for remembering user preferences, but now the AI assistant is able to take into account not only disparate parameters, but also the holistic structure of dialogues, which allows it to build work based on the accumulated context.

Users can manage their interaction history with Gemini at any time. To do this, simply open the profile in the app, go to the “Gemini Apps Activity” section and select the desired options: view, delete or completely clear the saved data. This approach allows flexible control over which aspects of communication with the AI remain in the chatbot’s memory and which are subject to deletion. This not only increases the level of personalization, but also makes it possible to regulate the degree of data privacy.

The memorization feature is already available to Google One AI Premium subscribers, but only in English for now. In the coming weeks, Google plans to expand support for it to more languages, as well as integrate it into Google Workspace Business and Enterprise plans. While there is no exact timeline for when the feature will be available in other languages, it is clear that the company is looking to make its AI assistant more versatile and useful to a wider audience.

Similar technologies are already being used in other AI chatbots, including ChatGPT, which can also remember details of past conversations and take into account user preferences. However, Google’s approach is focused on deep integration with its ecosystem of services, such as Google Workspace. This could provide additional benefits to enterprise customers who value workflow continuity and the ability to use AI in structured business tasks. Competition in the AI assistant market is heating up, and this update makes Gemini an even more flexible tool for working with accumulated information.
