Google has introduced a new AI-powered feature that will help iPhone users understand complex terminology on the internet more easily. The tool is called Simplify and has already started rolling out in the iOS app.

The Simplify feature allows you to transform highlighted text on a web page into a more understandable and accessible form directly in the Google app, without having to navigate to other resources. According to The Verge, the development is based on the Gemini AI model and is aimed at making professional and technical vocabulary more understandable to a wider audience.

According to the company, Simplify can interpret medical or scientific terms without distorting their meaning. For example, the term “emphysema” is explained as “a condition in which the air sacs in the lungs are damaged,” and “fibrosis” is explained as “the hardening of connective tissue or scarring that occurs in response to injury.” This makes the tool especially useful for reading complex materials, such as scientific articles, medical reports, or legal documents.

Google says that in testing, users found the simplified versions of texts significantly more useful than the originals. To activate the feature in the Google app on iOS, simply highlight the desired piece of text on a web page and select the Simplify icon from the menu that appears.

When asked about the possibility of expanding the feature to Android and the Chrome browser, Google spokesperson Jennifer Kutz told The Verge: “We’re not talking about that right now, but we’re always looking to bring useful features to our other products.”
