Google will hold a separate event dedicated to the development and updates of the Android OS, which will precede the traditional Google I/O developer conference. The broadcast of Android Show: I/O Edition will begin on May 13 at 20:00 Moscow time on the official YouTube channel and the Android website. The event will be attended by the president of the Android ecosystem Sameer Samat. The main Google I/O is scheduled to begin a week later, on May 20.

Experts believe that the announcement of an additional event dedicated specifically to the development of the Android OS is explained by the fact that the Google I/O developer conference will focus on promoting the Gemini artificial intelligence model and Google’s other efforts in the field of artificial intelligence, including the Project Astra AI assistant.

While Android was once the star of Google I/O, with the company making a big show of choosing the dessert to name the next version of the OS, a lot has changed in the last few years. Last year, Google spent the vast majority of its time redesigning search around AI, integrating Gemini into Android phones and the company’s many services, and unveiling Veo’s AI model for generating videos from text descriptions.

Google says Android-related topics will still be discussed at I/O, in keynotes and developer tech sessions. “We’re sharing the news now to prepare you for I/O, where we’ll have even more special announcements and surprises,” Samat explained of the company’s position.
