Google Protects Android Users from Accidental Subscriptions in Play Store

Google has rolled out a new mechanism in the Play Market app designed to protect platform users from accidental purchases. Previously, the company added biometric or password authorization to the purchase procedure — now it has been supplemented with a slider that has replaced the button, the Android Authority resource noted.

Google announced its intention to replace the button with a slider that requires a gesture command back in March when it announced new Play Services features, but it only started rolling it out now. The company announced the new feature would be coming with Play Store 45.6, but its actual rollout began with version 45.8.21-31, although not all users have seen the new feature yet — some may have to wait for it to appear.

The slider with a gesture command has replaced the existing button for making one-time purchases or subscriptions — simply clicking on this area will no longer work. The new feature will help the platform’s audience reduce the number of accidental purchases, especially for those who have not enabled additional security features in the Play Market.
