Google Meet with Gemini AI Learns to Assign Performers and Replaces Manual Note Taking

Google Meet, one of the key tools for corporate users of Google Workspace, has continued to integrate AI into the video conferencing process. The new functionality based on Gemini AI is able to analyze the conversation in real time, record key points and automatically generate a checklist of follow-up actions. Moreover, AI not only records important moments, but also attaches the main stakeholder to the task and determines deadlines, which minimizes the likelihood of losing critical information.

The note-taking feature was first introduced in August 2024. Its main purpose is to automatically create structured reports after meetings. The Verge has been testing the tool since its launch and has found it to be error-prone. Now, Gemini-powered voice transcription technology not only records what is said, but also distinguishes between participants’ voices, although not always perfectly. After the meeting, the AI summarizes its results in a surprisingly coherent Google Docs document and automatically sends it to all participants. This feature will be especially useful for teams that need to quickly record decisions and reduce the burden on employees manually jotting down key points.

Google emphasizes that the rollout of the new feature will be “significantly slower than usual” as the company closely monitors its quality and performance. While AI notes and automatic action list creation make the user experience much easier, privacy concerns remain. Many companies discuss sensitive data during meetings, and automated speech analysis may raise concerns about sensitive information leaking into Gemini’s large language model. The feature began rolling out today, but organizations should be aware of the potential risks associated with using AI in an enterprise environment.
