Google has released the fourth beta of Android 15 – the release of the stable version is just around the corner

This week, Google released Android 15 Beta 4, the final beta version of its new mobile operating system. The next release should be a stable version of Android 15, but this will happen later. At this stage, developers have the opportunity to test their products for compatibility with an OS that is as close as possible to the one that will be installed on user devices.

The Android 15 Beta 4 description only lists one change that requires action from third-party app developers. They need to remove the old emoji display system that used PNG files. Google is offering three different ways for developers to do this for those still using the outdated emoji library in their products.

In addition to this, Google recalled the key features of the new OS, probably so that developers do not forget to implement them in their applications:

  • Increased privacy and security, including through the introduction of a protected “Personal Space” section, which is isolated from other applications and requires additional authentication before opening content.
  • Improved support for satellite communications systems such as SpaceX Starlink, which is available to Android device owners in the US and some other regions.
  • Camera update, including the introduction of Low Light Boost mode.
  • Simplified login using a password.
  • Improved features for people with disabilities, such as expanded support for third-party braille displays.

The official release of Android 15 should take place in a few weeks, but the distribution of the platform to compatible user devices will most likely take months. Owners of branded Google Pixel smartphones should be among the first to receive the new OS. According to reports, Android 15 is supported on the company’s smartphones starting with Pixel 6.
