Google has confirmed that the Pixel Watch 3 cannot be repaired

A Google customer service representative confirmed that the Pixel Watch 3 is not repairable and will need to be replaced if broken or damaged. If the breakdown is covered by the warranty, the owner will receive a new watch free of charge. There is also the opportunity, within 30 days after purchasing the watch, to purchase an insurance package for $140, which covers mechanical damage and other non-warranty cases for two years.

It appears that for the third generation of smartwatches, Google has continued the “replacement only” policy that previously applied to the Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2. Experts consider this approach of the company “disappointing”, given Google’s stated commitment to preserving the environment and saving resources. Recently, at the Made by Google event, the company reported on its achievements in the field of ecology, focusing on the growing percentage of recycled materials in new devices and packaging.

Recent right-to-repair laws in some countries have empowered owners to repair their devices themselves, while requiring manufacturers to provide information and technical support. From this point of view, the release of yet another irreparable gadget seems illogical and contrary to the law.

Google is not the only company that has recently released a device that cannot be repaired. According to iFixit, the recently introduced Samsung Galaxy Ring will end up in a landfill if it breaks or has a bad battery.
