Google Gemini AI makes smart replies in Gmail even smarter

Google has released an update to the Gmail app for Android and iOS – tighter integration with Gemini AI helps improve the quality of smart replies. The company spoke about the new mechanism for the function back in May: now the AI takes into account the contents of the entire email chain.

The user has access to a preview of several options for smart answers – they can choose the one that best suits their needs or writing style. The idea of the innovation is to save time for those who actively correspond by email, as well as to diversify the set of available automatic responses – in the updated version they even contain an initial greeting and signature.

Contextual Smart Replies are available to all Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, Education Premium and Google One AI Premium subscribers. The updated feature builds on the original Smart Replies, which debuted in Gmail in 2017. Previously, Google introduced the Gmail Q&A function – it allows you to ask the chatbot questions, to answer which the AI will have to analyze the user’s correspondence.
