Google CEO Sundar Pichai said the company is close to a deal with Apple to bring its Gemini AI model to the iPhone, allowing Siri to use the AI model’s extensive capabilities to answer more complex questions.

Back in June last year, Apple Senior Vice President Craig Federighi hinted at the possibility of integration, saying that the company would like to give users the option to choose between AI models in the future, including Google Gemini. For now, only support for OpenAI’s chatbot has been added to Apple Intelligence, which routes complex queries to ChatGPT if they exceed its capabilities, The Verge notes.
Pichai confirmed that he had discussed the integration with Apple CEO Tim Cook, who in turn was interested in Gemini’s development and marketing plans, and also confirmed that his company intends to add more third-party AI models to Apple Intelligence this year.
If the deal goes through (expected by the end of 2025), Gemini will become the second third-party AI system available in Apple’s ecosystem, giving users a choice between OpenAI and Google technologies and increasing competition in the AI space.
