Google Chrome for iOS will feature groups of tabs and cross-platform synchronization

Google has introduced a number of new features, including the long-awaited tab grouping of the Chrome browser for iOS, cross-platform synchronization of tab groups between mobile and desktop versions of the browser, and an experimental feature to proactively suggest recently visited web pages. These improvements are designed to significantly improve user productivity and further strengthen Chrome’s position in the highly competitive web browser market.

This functionality, which has already become an integral part of the user experience on Android and desktop versions of the browser, is now available to iPhone and iPad owners. To organize related web pages into intuitive groups, you need to open the tab grid, long-press on the selected tab, and then select the “Add Tab to New Group” option. You can then give the group a unique name and choose a color for it. This will greatly simplify navigation and search for the necessary information among many open tabs, which is especially important for active users of mobile devices.

In parallel with the introduction of tab grouping on iOS, Google announced a feature for synchronizing saved tab groups between multiple devices. This will help solve the age-old problem of losing context when switching between devices. Now users can easily continue work started, for example, on a smartphone, moving to a desktop computer without the risk of losing important tabs. Google says the update will be coming to Chrome on iOS “soon.”

In addition, Chrome is testing an innovative feature to proactively suggest websites previously open on a user’s other devices, which will significantly reduce the need for bookmarks. So, when opening a new Chrome tab on any of the supported devices (Android, iOS or desktop), the user will be offered specific web pages to revisit. Google plans to begin testing this feature in a couple of weeks, but the exact launch date has not yet been announced.
