Google Announces Video Chat with Gemini: AI Assistant Will Be Able to Understand What’s Happening Around the User

Google unveiled a duo of Project Astra features at MWC 2025: as early as March, users of the Gemini AI assistant will be able to show it their smartphone screen or stream video from their camera.

Gemini’s Android interface, which allows you to display controls on top of other apps, will feature a new “Share screen with Live” button above the “Ask Gemini” text field. By showing the AI ​​a screen image, you’ll be taken to a phone call interface and start a conversation with Gemini. You can ask the AI ​​questions about what’s on the screen and have a full conversation.

In the full-screen Gemini Live format, you can also select the video broadcast button located next to the screen sharing button – the video is broadcast to almost the entire display. Google has slightly reduced the size of the Gemini Live buttons – from round to horizontally elongated and more compact.

The company announced these features in May last year at the Google I/O 2024 conference, discussed them in more detail in December at the Gemini 2.0 presentation, and some of the features were also demonstrated in January at the presentation of the Samsung Galaxy S25 smartphones. Owners of Android devices and Gemini Advanced subscriptions will be the first to use the Gemini Live features in March.
