Google and Samsung showed an alternative to Apple Vision Pro – the Project Moohan XR headset on the Android XR platform

Samsung and Google demonstrated on Thursday Project Moohan, a prototype of the first extended reality (XR) headset based on the Google Android XR software platform announced on the same day. The new product can be called a response to the Vision Pro headset, and it is also very similar to the Apple product.

According to Samsung and Google, the Project Moohan headset will offer the full range of XR experiences, from fully immersive virtual reality to mixed or augmented reality. Moohan means “infinity” in Korean. The headset will track eye and hand movements and respond to voice requests.

Gemini, Google’s AI platform, will become the center of the company’s augmented reality system. It is reported that “Gemini will see what you see and hear what you hear.” This new wearable device will differ from Apple’s Vision Pro headset, which, although the Apple Siri assistant is integrated, does not currently have such advanced capabilities.

Samsung chose not to reveal key Project Moohan specifications, such as price, weight, battery placement and imaging technology, only saying that the device will have “high resolution” displays. It is also known that Project Moohan will use a Qualcomm chip or chips, as early last year Samsung, Google and Qualcomm announced a partnership to develop a new mixed reality platform. Samsung did not specify which chip we are talking about, but it is quite logical to assume that it will be Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2.

The companies announced that the Project Moohan headset will be introduced in 2025.
