GeForce RTX 4070 with GDDR6 memory is sold in Europe more expensive than the version with GDDR6X

Nvidia last month introduced the GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card with GDDR6 memory instead of GDDR6X. Many thought that the new product would be slightly cheaper than the original model. But the start of sales showed exactly the opposite picture – contrary to expectations, the GeForce RTX 4070 GDDR6 is sold at a higher price than the version with GDDR6X, at least in some European countries.

At the moment, the cheapest version of the RTX 4070 GDDR6 – Palit GeForce RTX 4070 White OC 12 GB – is sold in the Austrian store BA-Computer for €562. Other versions from Gigabyte, MSI and ASUS are priced between €569 and €614. The most expensive Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 Windforce OC V2 12 GB GDDR6 with three fans will cost €614. At the same time, the original RTX 4070 GDDR6X can be found starting at €536 (Asus Dual GeForce RTX 4070 EVO OC), and many other models with GDDR6X are sold for less than €560, which makes them clearly more attractive than the new product.

Note that according to the first tests, the difference in performance between the two versions of the RTX 4070 is negligible at 1080p and 1440p resolutions, and at 4K resolution the original GeForce RTX 4070 GDDR6X is about 2% faster, due to the higher RAM bandwidth of 21 Gbps versus 20 Gbps for GDDR6.

It is quite possible that in the near future prices for the RTX 4070 GDDR6 will decrease and become equal to the RTX 4070 GDDR6X. However, at the moment, buying a new version, as Wccftech writes, does not make sense, since for the same or even less money you can buy the original model with higher performance. In addition, Nvidia also has an RTX 4070 Super version, which turns out to be not much more expensive, and this makes the RTX 4070 GDDR6 graphics card even less attractive.
