Leading industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed that Apple plans to introduce its first foldable iPhone with a book-like design and a premium price tag in late 2026 or early 2027. The smartphone will feature a main display measuring around 7.8 inches diagonally with no visible crease and a 5.5-inch outer screen.

When folded, the thickness of the device will be from 9 to 9.5 mm, and when unfolded, from 4.5 to 4.8 mm. The body will be made of titanium alloy, the hinge – from a combination of stainless steel and also titanium alloy. The camera will consist of two lenses on the back and one front camera, available both folded and unfolded, writes MacRumors, citing Kuo’s data.

Interestingly, Apple will likely ditch Face ID in favor of Touch ID, which is built into the side button, to save precious internal space. The company is also positioning the foldable iPhone as a “full-fledged AI device,” which, thanks to larger screens, will allow for more efficient multitasking using artificial intelligence (AI).

As for the target audience and price, Kuo says the smartphone will be aimed at dedicated Apple fans who perceive the company’s innovative devices as “must-buys.” If their quality, of course, meets expectations. Presumably, the price of the foldable iPhone could exceed not only $2,000, but it is possible that it will exceed $2,500.

Apple plans to approve the technical specifications of the device in the second quarter of this year, and officially launch the project in the third quarter. Mass production is scheduled for late 2026 or early 2027. In addition, the company is already considering the possibility of releasing a second generation of the foldable iPhone a year after the release of the first model.
