Fujifilm has announced a new hybrid instant camera, the Wide Evo, in its Instax line, which can also act as a wireless printer for smartphones when connected via Bluetooth. The new product is similar to the Instax Mini Evo, which Fujifilm released in the US in 2022, but uses Instax Wide instant film, which doubles the size of the print.
The Instax Wide Evo features the widest lens in the entire Instax camera range with a focal length of 15.67mm. There is no viewfinder – its role is played by a 3.5-inch LCD display, which is used for framing pictures, navigating menus and editing images. There is a small selfie mirror on the front of the camera.
According to Fujifilm, the Instax Wide Evo battery can print up to 100 99 x 62mm images at 1600 x 1260 pixel resolution. The built-in memory provides storage of about 45 photos, it can be expanded using a microSD memory card.
The Instax Wide Evo offers 10 lens effects and 10 film effects, which can be combined in pairs using dials located on the ends of the device. The intensity of the effects is adjusted using the Degree Control mechanism, controlled by a ring on the lens. The camera also provides five additional film style settings, including effects such as simulating holes in a film roll or adding the date and time to the corner of the image.
The Instax Wide Evo can be used as a printer when wirelessly connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth. This requires installation of a special application, available for iOS and Android. When printing from a smartphone, the maximum image resolution is limited to 800 × 1260 pixels. The smartphone can also be used as a wireless remote control for the camera.
Camera dimensions: 138.7 × 125 × 62.8 mm, weight without cartridge – 490 g.
The Instax Wide Evo is scheduled to go on sale in February 2025 for $350. A $50 case will be available for the camera that will allow you to take photographs without removing the camera from it. A pack of ten Instax Wide film cartridges for ten shots will cost $25.
