Fujifilm introduced the X-M5 mirrorless camera for only $800 – it is aimed at beginner video bloggers

The Fujifilm X-T50, introduced in May, was the first Fujifilm camera to feature a physical film simulation switch. Now this innovation has been implemented in the X-M5 compact mirrorless camera, which was announced this week. But what’s even more interesting is that the new product is the first Fujifilm mirrorless camera in a long time to cost less than $1000.

Fujifilm is positioning the new camera as a lightweight and compact camera suitable for everyday use and “aspiring content creators” who plan to use it for vlogging, despite the lack of built-in image stabilization (IBIS). Fujifilm is promoting the idea that whatever cameras are used in smartphones, the X-M5 has a much larger sensor that can capture more light and capture more detail.

The developers equipped the X-M5 with a 26.1-megapixel CMOS sensor and the current generation X-Processor 5 processor. Instead of optical stabilization, electronic stabilization (DIS) is used, which, according to the manufacturer, has been significantly improved. The camera can shoot 6.2K video at up to 30 frames per second with 10-bit color. In the era of vertical videos, the camera has a “short video mode” with an aspect ratio of 9:16, but it is limited to Full HD quality.

Fujifilm has made some efforts to reduce the cost of the camera. So on the rear panel there is a viewfinder with a resolution of 1.04 million dots, which is not so much compared to the displays that the manufacturer uses in more expensive models. The power source is not the most current and capacious battery, so if you plan to shoot for a long time, it would be a good idea to have a spare battery. Additionally, the SD card slot still only supports UHS-I, although this is unlikely to be a big issue for the target market.

The Film Simulation switch is located on the left side of the top surface of the case, allowing you to quickly switch between 20 different modes. The design provides three microphones, and the user has four microphone directional options: surround, front, rear, or front and rear. To ensure better sound quality, the camera can cut out persistent noise.

The Fujifilm X-M5 weighs 355g, making it the lightest camera in the manufacturer’s X-Series family. Buyers will be able to choose between versions of the device in black and silver color options. Those wishing to purchase the new product will have to spend $800.
