Framework Unveils ‘Easiest to Repair’ Laptop – Modular, Affordable, and Compact Laptop 12

Framework, a company known for its modular laptops, has unveiled its most compact mobile computer yet, the Framework Laptop 12. With this new product, the manufacturer intends to change the market for affordable laptops, which usually leave much to be desired. In addition, this is the first Framework with a touchscreen and the first convertible laptop from the manufacturer.

«“We build products to fix what we believe is a broken industry, and few categories illustrate the problems of consumer electronics more vividly than entry-level laptops,” writes Framework CEO Nirav Patel.

Entry-level laptops, he says, are typically disposable, clunky, underpowered, “boring machines” with various limitations. Worse, Patel says, these are the very laptops manufacturers sell to students, college students, and young people around the world. “We believe these are the people who need well-designed, durable computers the most,” Patel concludes.

Framework Laptop 12 will offer a 12.2-inch display with a resolution of 1920 × 1200 pixels and a brightness of over 400 cd/m2, as well as support for touch input, including using a stylus. The system will be based on 13th-generation Intel Core i3 or i5 processors, supplemented by DDR5-5200 RAM with a capacity of up to 48 GB. A fast NVMe SSD with a capacity of up to 2 TB will be provided for data storage. There will also be support for Wi-Fi 6E.

Judging by the image, the Framework Laptop 12 will be equipped with four Framework expansion card slots, which allow users to choose the ports they want for their laptop. For example, there are cards with DisplayPort, Ethernet, HDMI, microSD, and of course, USB, among others.

«”In many ways, [the Framework Laptop 12] is the product I started the company for,” Patel said, adding that it will be “our easiest-to-repair product yet.”

Unfortunately, Framework hasn’t shared pricing details yet, only saying that it will be lower than the Framework Laptop 13, which starts at $750 for versions with previous-generation chips, or $1,100 for models with the latest chips. Pre-orders will begin in April, with shipments set to begin in “mid-2025.”
