In early December, Patrick Gelsinger was ousted as Intel CEO, after it was revealed that he was backing Gloo, a startup that aims to bring new technology to conservative religious communities. Yesterday, Gelsinger took over as Gloo’s chief technology officer and executive chairman.

Gloo is working to implement large language models in the field of interaction between parishioners and clergy. Gelsinger has previously admitted that Gloo already uses DeepSeek’s open-source language models, but hopes to eventually implement its own developments in this area. Gelsinger has led Gloo’s board of directors as non-executive chairman since 2018, and the former Intel chief has been promoting Christianity in California for more than a decade.
Gloo was founded in 2013 and raised $110 million last year. The company is developing a “Christian chatbot” that filters search results and provides users with answers based on Christian canons. In his new role, Gelsinger will have a greater influence on the development of this chatbot. “Technology has the power to connect, improve, and transform people’s lives, but only when it is designed with that in mind,” Patrick Gelsinger said of his appointment.
