For the first time, iPhone 16 will do without AI – iOS 18.1 with Apple Intelligence will be released only in October

Apple today announced that Apple Intelligence-powered features will be available in beta as part of iOS 18.1 this October. That is, the new iPhone 16 series will not support the latest AI capabilities out of the box. Moreover, at first, Apple Intelligence will be available only to users from the United States.

The geography of Apple Intelligence release will expand over time. In December, the company will make AI features available to residents of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK. In 2025, it plans to expand support to China, France, Japan and Spain. In all these countries, Apple Intelligence will be released with support for official languages.

Apple Intelligence features will be available free to iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro owners. Mac computers based on Apple M1 processors and later will also receive support for Apple Intelligence, as will iPads powered by Apple M-series computer chips.

Apple has not officially announced when certain features of the Apple Intelligence ecosystem will be released. According to 9to5Mac, the notification and email summary feature, new camera capabilities, and AI image editing features are expected to be released starting in October.

Image generation features such as Genmoji for creating emoji from text descriptions and Image Playgrounds are rumored to be available in December.
