Companies around the world have been showing off humanoid robots lately, but walking on two legs remains a challenge, so in practice such machines are not yet used often, and they are quite expensive. The “half-humanoid” FlashBot Arm seems to be a machine that is more likely to be encountered in practice. The robot is equipped with two arms, each of which consists of three joints and has 7 degrees of freedom and ends with a Pudu DH11 robotic hand with 11 degrees of freedom. There is a 10.1-inch touchscreen.
FlashBot Arm has a working radius of 2 m: the robot can grab and carry objects, press buttons, for example, in elevators, and read key cards at the entrance to restricted areas. The machine is suitable for delivering goods to guests in hotels, will be useful in office buildings and hotels, catering establishments, in retail and medical institutions. FlashBot Arm is equipped with a microphone, a speaker and has a built-in large language model of artificial intelligence, which allows it to communicate with people and perceive verbal commands from them.
The VSLAM (Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) navigation system includes RGB cameras that act as depth sensors, panoramic cameras, and a lidar module that helps create a 3D map and avoid obstacles, including without colliding with people. When transporting, FlashBot Arm places objects in a special compartment with a lid, and its hands remain free while moving. The robot weighs 15 kg; the battery charges in 4 hours and provides 8 hours of autonomous operation, if it is not associated with the transportation of heavy loads. Nothing has been announced about the cost and availability of FlashBot Arm for sale yet.
