Following reports of widespread disruptions to the social network X on Monday, March 10, from users around the world, its owner Elon Musk said the cause was a major cyberattack.

«”A massive cyberattack has been launched against X (and is still ongoing),” Musk wrote on his X account. He noted that the social network is subject to hacker attacks on a daily basis, but this time a large number of resources were involved. “Either this is the result of a coordinated attack by a large group of hackers, or some country is involved. We are investigating,” said the entrepreneur, who currently heads the US Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE).
On Monday, the Downdetector website, which tracks outages and shutdowns of popular Internet resources, recorded numerous complaints from users around the world about X malfunctions. The first wave of problems began at about 12:30 Moscow time, after which the intensity of the malfunctions began to subside an hour later. The second wave of problems was recorded at about 16:30 Moscow time.
The largest number of complaints came from Japan and the United States — about 45,000 and 40,000, respectively — as well as from the United Kingdom (about 10,000), Germany (about 6,000), Canada, France, and Brazil (about 4,000). There were also reports of failures from other countries. Users mainly complained about problems with the X mobile app, the web version of the social network, and connecting to the server.
