Eidos Montreal aims to revive Deus Ex – first details of the new game in the series

Insider Gaming reports that the Canadian studio Eidos Montreal, which is owned by the Embracer Group holding, has not lost hope of reviving the Deus Ex series of cyberpunk role-playing shooters with stealth elements.

Recall that the franchise died down after weak sales of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (2016). In recent years, Eidos Montreal had been developing the next game in the series, but Embracer cancelled it last winter.

According to several sources close to the studio, Insider Gaming has been hearing that Eidos Montreal has been actively pitching the idea of a new Deus Ex (not the cancelled one) to potential outside partners and publishers until recently.

Unfortunately, Eidos Montreal has not yet achieved success in its endeavor – a couple of potential investors considered the series “too niche”, and publishers are afraid to take the financial risk associated with the release of the Deus Ex game.

Little is known about the project itself. The concept of the new game is said to have “charm and novelty” but at the same time does not correspond to “the expectations and standards usually associated with the Deus Ex brand.”

The story of the reluctant cyborg Adam Jensen in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided ended mid-sentence, but Eidos Montreal had ideas on how to finish the trilogy. However, the new game that was born in the studio will most likely not be connected to this story.

Meanwhile, Eidos Montreal recently reported that one of its projects is about to be completed, which will result in the layoff of 75 employees. Another 100 people left the studio after Deus Ex was cancelled last winter.
