Canon has officially unveiled the PowerShot V1 compact camera for content creators who need to shoot high-quality video and photos. The new product provides 4K video recording with 10-bit color depth and 60 frames per second. The PowerShot V1 is equipped with a large 1.4-inch sensor and a built-in fan to cool it during long continuous shooting. The camera supports professional-grade color correction.

The new camera’s 1.4-inch sensor is similar in size to a Micro Four Thirds sensor, but has a 3:2 aspect ratio. The camera can shoot 22.3-megapixel still images at up to 15 fps using the mechanical shutter, or 30 fps using the electronic shutter. 4K/30p 10-bit video uses the full width of the sensor, but uses a 1.4x crop when zoomed in to 60p.
The new sensor gives the PowerShot V1 improved low-light performance, expanded dynamic range and improved image clarity. Combined with the DIGIC X processor, the camera supports ISO sensitivities up to 32,000 in photo mode.
The new sensor is paired with a wide-angle zoom lens with a 16-50mm equivalent focal length and f/2.8-4.5 aperture. Canon’s Dual Pixel AF II system, inherited from the EOS R6 Mark II, provides autofocus with intelligent subject recognition and tracking, as well as image stabilization.
The PowerShot V1 does not have an electronic viewfinder; a three-inch vari-angle LCD touchscreen is used for framing and menu navigation. The camera connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or a USB Type-C cable using the Canon Connect app. The PowerShot V1 can be used as a webcam on a PC without the need for additional adapters.

There is no built-in flash, but the PowerShot V1 has a multi-functional hot shoe for attaching an external flash. The camera also offers a three-stop ND filter, headphone and microphone jacks, an HDMI port, and one SD card slot.
The Canon PowerShot V1 is priced at 148,500 yen, or about $990, in Japan. It is scheduled to go on sale worldwide in late April 2025.
