The idea of equipping a car with a flying drone-satellite has been floated by several automakers at various times, but due to the simplicity of their cooperation, progress in this area is visible to the naked eye among Chinese companies. BYD has announced that it will expand the use of DJI drones as flying companions for its cars.

In fact, BYD’s flagship SUV YangWang U8 already comes with a DJI drone in one of its configurations. It should be used by off-road enthusiasts to assess the environment beyond the line of sight and to simply film the vehicle itself for further viewing “from the outside.”

The problem is that such a “flying video recorder” is only available on vehicles costing over $150,000. BYD and DJI have agreed to democratize this option, which will appear on the former’s more affordable models. Combined with the free autopilot features on most BYD models, this solution could attract even more buyers to the brand’s products.
