Boston Dynamics has announced the conclusion of an agreement on cooperation with the Institute of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (Robotics and Ai Institute), previously known as the Boston Dynamics AI (Boston Dynamics Ai Institute), in order to study with the reinforcement of the Atlas electrical -like robot.

Both organizations were founded by Marc Raibert, a former professor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who for 30 years served as CEO of Boston Dynamics. The Institute of Robotics and AI was created by him in 2020. Both organizations are associated with Hyundai: the Korean automaker acquired Boston Dynamics in 2021 and also finances the institute.

As part of the cooperation, Boston Dynamics and the Institute will focus on learning Atlas with reinforcement – one of the methods of machine learning, which works by trial and error, just as people and animals study. Reinforcement training has always been an extremely time -consuming process, however, the creation of effective simulation made it possible to perform many processes simultaneously in a virtual environment, the TechCrunch resource noted.

This is one of the last joint projects of Boston Dynamics and the Institute. Previously, they already worked on the creation of a research kit for training with the reinforcement of the four -legged Robot Spot from Boston Dynamics. In the case of Atlas, scientists will take up the robot training in the skills of “dynamic running and manipulating heavy objects.”
