Blizzard will soon remove Warcraft and Warcraft 2 from sale on GOG, but the CD Projekt store will not abandon them

Following the release of remasters of Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness, Blizzard Entertainment will remove the original versions of fantasy strategy games from sale on GOG, but CD Projekt’s digital store has a plan.

The GOG administration announced that on December 13, at the request of Blizzard, Warcraft and Warcraft 2 will be removed from the store. Until then, a collection containing both games ($15) can be purchased for a $2 discount using promo code MakeWarcraftLiveForever.

The service noted that they are “deeply saddened” by the situation and are reluctantly escorting games from the store: “Despite our dedication and all our efforts, sometimes not everything goes as we hoped.”

Warcraft and Warcraft 2 are part of the recently launched GOG Preservation Program for classic games. GOG is not going to refuse to support projects because they are removed from the store.

«Once a game is included in the software, we are committed to maintaining its compatibility even if it is removed from the store. This means that owners of such projects can count on a seamless experience and technical support,” GOG assured.

Owners of games in the GOG Preservation Program receive the most complete version available today, complete with guides, bonus and downloadable content, and features not found in other titles.

In addition to Warcraft and Warcraft 2, the program currently has more than 100 hits from previous years, including two of the three original S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but GOG plans to make all games part of the initiative.
