Biden will not block TikTok in the US on his last working day – Trump will decide the fate of the social network

There are only a few days left until January 19, when a ban on short video service TikTok in the United States will come into force if parent Chinese company ByteDance refuses to sell it. Joe Biden’s administration official told the AP that the head of the White House will not impose a ban on TikTok, leaving the choice to President-elect Donald Trump.

Trump pushed to ban TikTok during his first term over national security concerns, but has since reversed course, crediting the platform for helping him win more youth votes during the campaign and vowing to “save TikTok.”

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew is expected to attend Trump’s inauguration and will be given a place of honor at the podium next to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Meta✴ CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman (Sam Altman) and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (Jeff Bezos, as the president-elect’s national security adviser Mike Waltz signaled that the new administration could take steps to “prevent TikTok from disappearing.”

Speaking on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends” Thursday, Walz noted that the federal law that would ban TikTok starting this Sunday also “allows for an extension if a viable deal is on the agenda.”

Last week, the Supreme Court heard arguments from the parties in a lawsuit filed by TikTok, ByteDance and app users challenging the law banning the service. According to the AP resource, judges are likely to uphold the law, which requires ByteDance to abandon TikTok under threat of a ban on activities in one of its largest markets.

«If the Supreme Court rules in favor of the law, President Trump has made it clear: First, TikTok is a great platform that many Americans use and was great for his campaign and spreading his message. But secondly, it will protect their data,” Walz said Wednesday.

It’s also worth noting that on Wednesday, Pam Bondi, Trump’s nominee for U.S. attorney general, dodged a question during a Senate hearing about whether she would support a TikTok ban.
