In the hierarchy of Asus boards, the X870 MAX Gaming WiFi7 model is located below the TUF Gaming X870 Plus model. It is designed to compete with such boards as Gigabyte Gaming X and MSI Gaming. The new product is made in the usual ATX format and is equipped with a 13-phase VRM power supply subsystem according to the 12 + 2 + 1 scheme using DrMOS 80 A elements.

The Asus X870 MAX Gaming WiFi7 has four DIMM slots for DDR5 RAM, a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, and just one M.2 PCIe 5.0 x4 slot for NVMe drives. The second M.2 slot supports the PCIe 4.0 x4 interface. Both work directly from the CPU PCIe lines. The third M.2 slot (PCIe 4.0 x4) is powered by the AMD X870 chipset. The new product is also equipped with four SATA III ports (6 Gbps). In addition, the board offers two physical PCIe 4.0 x16 slots (operating in x1 mode) and one PCIe 3.0 x1.

The motherboard is equipped with two USB4 ports (Type-C, 40 Gbps), one USB 3.2 Gen2 (10 Gbps), three USB 3.1 Gen1 and four USB 2.0. The front panel has one USB-C (20 Gbps) and two additional USB ports with a throughput of 5 Gbps.

As the name suggests, the board supports Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4 is also supported. Wired networking is provided by a 2.5-gigabit Realtek controller, and the entry-level Realtek ALC892 HD codec is responsible for audio. The board’s price is not yet known, but given its equipment, it is expected to be one of the most affordable among the X870-based models.
