ASUS presented gallium nitride-based PC power supplies at Gamescom

As the Overclock3d resource emphasizes, the transition to GaN transistors is not a process of simply replacing one component with another. New ASUS transistors provide higher levels of efficiency and simplify the internal layout of power supplies, which makes it possible to optimize the cooling system of the units, also ensuring quieter operation.

According to ASUS, transistor efficiency has increased by 30%. In addition, both the new ROG THOR III and Strix Platinum power supplies are certified to ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 standards. The devices are also enhanced with the addition of a new 2-pin connector that is a voltage sensor, allowing both ROGs to closely monitor power delivery for optimal GPU performance and stability.

The ROG THOR III series is 80+ Titanium certified, while the new ROG Strix series is 80+ Platinum certified. Both ratings are in the high-performance class, but the THOR series takes efficiency to an even higher level, delivering up to 96% efficiency. The ROG THOR III power supply also received a Cybenetics efficiency certification and a Lamda A+ noise rating.

ROG Thor is also equipped with a magnetic OLED display, which can be placed in any convenient place, for example, attached to the power supply or to any other surface for better visibility.
