Aroma diffuser with “ocean scent” found inside Radeon RX 9070 XT Sakura Atlantis

Popular tech blogger Steve Burke from the YouTube channel GamersNexus took apart the Radeon RX 9070 XT Sakura Atlantis graphics card from Yeston and discovered one curious feature. No, it’s not the bright coloring with an anime character on the back plate, or the unusual shape of the cooling system shroud, or the white printed circuit board. The graphics card is equipped with a built-in aroma diffuser.

Steve Burke’s colleagues had different reactions to the smell of the video card, or rather the aroma diffuser installed in it. Some thought it reminded them of a car air freshener, while others thought it smelled like a cross between perfume and freshly washed laundry. Some didn’t notice any aroma at all. The company itself describes it as “the smell of the ocean.”

The aroma source is made in the form of a synthetic blotter and is located under one of the cooling system fans. According to the idea, when the fans rotate, the aroma should spread beyond the graphics card. Apparently, the aroma diffuser is not intended to be replaced, so once the smell disappears, the graphics card will probably “start smelling like dust and regret again,” as VideoCardz jokes.

The Radeon RX 9070 XT Sakura Atlantis is based on the Navi 48 XTX graphics chip with 4096 stream processors. The video card is equipped with 16 GB of GDDR6 memory with a bandwidth of 20 Gbps and a 256-bit bus. In standard mode, the GPU frequencies are 2400–2970 MHz, and when overclocked – 2520 MHz in games and up to 3060 MHz in Boost mode.

In addition to the smell test, Steve Burke also checked the card’s gaming performance. Overall, it was on par with other Radeon RX 9070 XT models from other manufacturers. In China, the Radeon RX 9070 XT Sakura Atlantis retails for 5,099 yuan (around $700).

It should be noted that this is not Yeston’s first experience in creating scented PC equipment. The company has already released similar video cards in the Radeon RX 5000 series. Moreover, Yeston is not the only manufacturer experimenting with scenting devices. For example, Asus previously introduced a laptop with a replaceable air freshener , as well as monitors with a built-in air ionizer .

Unfortunately for fans of the GeForce RTX 50-series graphics cards, no manufacturer offers similar solutions yet. So while Radeon card owners enjoy the “smell of the ocean,” RTX users are left to make do with the natural smell of melting power connectors.
