ARM no longer threatens Qualcomm by a ban on the release of processors for PC

Last year, between the British developer of the ARM processor architecture and the American supplier of Qualcomm processors, a dispute arose around the legitimacy of using the NUVIA inherited development for the release of the processors of the Snapdragon X family used in the PC. Now, according to the management of Qualcomm, the British holding no longer claims to feed the corresponding license.

Recall that last year the jury sided with Qualcomm, formally allowing it to release the Snapdragon X processors created using Nuvia intellectual property, which the American developer had to inherit after buying this company in 2021. The ARM Nuvia license itself recalled in 2021, after the company’s transfer under the Qualcomm wing, and subsequently claimed that the latter did not have the right to produce Snapdragon X. The British Holding ARM demanded from Qualcomm concluding a new licensed agreement, as well as the reciprocation Even their physical disposal.

Having lost the court, ARM in December demonstrated the determination to defend its interests in other instances, but this week the CEO of Qualcomm, Cristiano Amon, said that the British counterparty no longer threatens the recall of the license from this American processor developer. ARM no longer believes that Qualcomm violated the terms of the license agreement between companies, and therefore does not claim to be his review. It remains only to observe how relations will develop between two companies, because Qualcomm is the largest client of ARM. At the same time, the processors of the Snapdragon X family, according to the Qualcomm leadership, managed to occupy up to 10 % of the market in the laptop segment worth more than $ 800 last year.
