Apple’s Lightning Era Is Almost Over – iPhone SE, iPhone 14, and 14 Plus Production Has Stopped

Yesterday, Apple unveiled the all-new iPhone 16e, its most affordable current-generation smartphone. Against this backdrop, three older iPhone models disappeared from the company’s website, indicating that they are no longer being produced. Apple will no longer produce the iPhone SE and iPhone 14 Plus, which was a completely expected move, as well as the iPhone 14, which came as a surprise to some.

Ahead of today’s presentation, it was expected that the most affordable Apple smartphone would be the new-generation iPhone SE, as it was before. However, some sources indicated that the smartphone would be called the iPhone 16e, which is what happened in the end. At the same time, Apple is replacing three old models with one new smartphone.

Apple itself has stopped selling the iPhone SE, iPhone 14, and 14 Plus, but they will still be available in third-party stores for some time. The iPhone 14 will likely remain on shelves longer than the other two, as it was more popular and Apple has larger stocks of this model. It is worth noting that the iPhone 14 was recently sold for $599, the same price as the new iPhone 16e, which is significantly more than the iPhone SE ($429).

At the same time, the arrival of one new iPhone to replace three older models means that Apple’s smartphone lineup will become more streamlined. However, buyers who want a truly affordable iPhone or an iPhone with a Home button will soon have to look to refurbished units or second-hand deals.

Note also that Apple has now completely stopped selling smartphones with a Lightning connector — all remaining models in the company’s range have USB-C. Apple previously abandoned the previous connector in the iPad. However, devices with Lightning can still be purchased on the Apple website — for example, the first-generation Pencil stylus, and a trove of other accessories. And now all iPhones are equipped with OLED screens.
