If any user had hoped for a new version of the compact Apple iPhone mini smartphone, that won’t happen, said Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, who is well-informed about the Cupertino company’s plans.
During a Q&A session with Bloomberg readers, Gurman was asked about the possibility of Apple releasing a model similar to the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini, to which he replied that the company is not currently working on anything like that. “They are trying to make (a device) with a display of about 6 inches diagonally, which is the basic size, and they are just trying to make (smartphones) bigger and bigger,” the journalist said, noting that everything depends on the market.
Gurman’s words are not a surprise, since there has been no previous indication that Apple is working on a new version of the iPhone mini, 9to5mac noted. However, there are some iPhone users who would like to see Apple return to the idea.
Apple introduced the iPhone 12 mini with a 5.4-inch screen in 2020, followed by the iPhone 13 mini the following year. However, with the iPhone 14 series in 2022, Apple ditched the mini form factor, adding the iPhone 14 Plus instead. The iPhone 13 mini was released until 2023, after which it was discontinued.
This year, the iPhone Plus model is expected to be replaced by the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air. Apparently, neither the mini nor the Plus form factor lived up to Apple’s expectations.
