Apple is preparing for significant changes in the design of its laptops. Information has appeared on the network that future MacBook Pros will not only switch from mini-LED to OLED displays, but will also get rid of the “bangs” familiar to users, giving way to a compact camera.
It is reported that new MacBook Pro models with OLED displays will be released in 14-inch and 16-inch versions between 2026 and 2027. Apple will likely use hybrid OLED technology similar to what is already used in the iPad Pro. In addition, the company plans to replace the “bangs” with a hole for the webcam, which will increase the working area of the screen.
It is worth saying that the notch first appeared in the MacBook Pro in 2021, when Apple updated the design of the device. This solution made it possible to increase the size of the display, bringing it closer to the edges of the case, but not to increase the size of the device. However, not everyone liked this and the option was criticized because it took up part of the macOS menu.
The new approach of using a hole for the camera is rumored to make the screen easier to work with, as the menu will no longer overlap with the cutout. It is also believed that Apple may introduce a Dynamic Island feature to the MacBook Pro, a similar design already used in the iPhone, which allows you to display current activity, such as voice recording, AirDrop connections or navigation. However, the exact details of this decision have not yet been disclosed.
Apple is also reportedly working on transitioning other devices to OLED displays. For example, the iPad mini could get OLED as early as the end of 2026, and the iPad Air in 2027. The MacBook Air is expected to have an OLED display in 2028, but it is rumored to retain the notch. A foldable device with an OLED screen may be released in the same year.
