Apple will release AirTag 2 next year – the updated tracker will become more accurate and more

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple plans to release a new AirTag 2 tracker “in the middle of next year.” The design of the device will remain close to the original, but some improvements will be made in technical terms.

Rumors about Apple’s intention to release AirTag 2 have appeared before, but for the first time the approximate release dates for this device became known. The original version of AirTag appeared in early 2021, after almost two years of information leaks about this device, which left everyone wondering whether this product would even appear on the market. Back in 2019, it was known that AirTag was being developed under the code name B389, and in iOS 13 there were many links confirming this name.

Apple’s new tracker is being developed under the code name B589, and according to Mark Gurman, it is “already in production testing.” This means that the product should be on the market in the foreseeable future. In terms of improvements, we can expect increased range of the tracker, improved location accuracy thanks to an improved ultra-wideband chip, and increased privacy.

Improvements in privacy will likely mean that AirTag 2 will become more difficult to use to spy on other people. Previously, there have been many reports on the Internet that some people are using the AirTag tracker for surveillance, and in some cases the device has been modified in such a way that the speaker is completely turned off.
