Apple will release a giant iPad with a flexible display, but not soon

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple plans to release its first foldable tablet in 2028. He describes the device as “something akin to a giant iPad that expands to the size of two iPad Pros placed next to each other.”

Rumors about Apple’s intention to launch a device with a flexible display appear regularly. According to Bloomberg, the company is now focusing on one product that will be released in a few years. The journalist notes that the developers pay great attention to ensuring that the folding tablet has a display without folds.

In existing prototypes, the crease in the display is almost invisible, but Apple wants to get rid of it completely. “Prototypes of the new product created by Apple’s industrial design division have an almost imperceptible fold. But it’s too early to say whether Apple will be able to get rid of this completely. Samsung Electronics, which released its first foldable smartphone five years ago, is still trying to remove the crease without success,” Gurman said in a statement.

Apparently, when unfolded, this device will measure 20 inches or so. Gurman describes it as a “single, continuous piece of glass” and calls the tablet itself a “higher-end device.” Speaking of the operating system, Gurman suggests that Apple’s foldable tablet will run iPadOS, but there are some caveats. “I don’t think it will be a true hybrid of iPad and Mac, but the device will have elements of both devices. By 2028, iPadOS should be advanced enough to run macOS apps,” says Gurman.
