Apple is preparing a “big shake-up” for the iPhone’s 20th anniversary next year, with the first foldable iPhone expected to be unveiled and a “bold” new iPhone 19 Pro design, according to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman.

The report says that the iPhone 19 Pro, unless the company’s plans change, will closely resemble what former Apple design chief Jony Ive wanted to see. He has long advocated for an iPhone that “looks like a single sheet of glass,” a concept that became crystal clear with the iPhone X.
While Apple has been releasing thicker, less sleek iPhones in recent years, the company may now be moving toward a design that Jony Ive might like. That shift will begin with the launch of the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air later this year and continue into next year, which will be Apple’s 100th anniversary year for smartphones.
«But for the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, the company is preparing a big shake-up, including a foldable version and a bold new Pro model that will make more use of glass,” Gurman said in a statement.
For most people, a glass-heavy iPhone is probably a durability and repairability issue. However, from Apple’s perspective, it may be a logical move, especially in the year of the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, to offer something new to customers. Unfortunately, Gurman’s post doesn’t mention any other design features of the iPhone 19 Pro.
