Apple Sued Over Broken AI Promises Apple Intelligence

Apple is facing two more class action lawsuits over delays in the release of features for its Apple Intelligence AI platform. Like the lawsuit filed in March, they accuse the company of misleading consumers by promising that the iPhone 16 would include AI features, including a more advanced Siri voice assistant, that it never received.

Apple made “false and/or misleading statements” to persuade customers to buy iPhone 16 smartphones, according to a class action lawsuit filed by Canadian consumers, the Vancouver Sun reported.

In fact, the Apple Intelligence platform was not available until the iPhone 16 was released in September 2024. Only in October and December did some AI features appear with iOS updates, but the same cannot be said for a “smarter” version of Siri, the release date of which is still unknown.

«“Consumers thus paid an illegal price premium for the iPhone 16 based on AI features that did not exist,” the lawsuit alleges.

Users accuse Apple of deceiving consumers in a “pursuit of AI market share.” By the time AI features are available, they may not be considered unique or innovative, the lawsuit says. That’s what’s happening. Apple has said that new smartphones will be able to “see” what the user is doing on the screen and perform actions on their behalf in apps. Samsung has already added Google’s screen view feature to the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
