Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman previously wrote that iOS 19 will be one of the biggest software updates in Apple’s history. The developers plan to significantly change the design of iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16 to make them more similar to each other. Now it has become known that Apple’s management is confident that users will like the new design of the operating systems, inspired by the look of visionOS.
Gurman’s post said that iOS 19 will be the biggest update since iOS 7, while macOS 16 will be the most significant update since macOS Big Sur. According to the journalist, the updates to iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16 “go far beyond a fresh coat of paint” and “will change the way people interact with their devices for years to come.” The design of Apple’s updated operating systems is based on the look of visionOS, the company’s operating system for the Vision Pro mixed reality headset.
«The new interfaces build on design principles introduced in visionOS, the software for Apple’s Vision Pro headset. They include greater transparency, new icon types, and new buttons — all designed to make Apple devices feel more consistent and familiar, says Mark Gurman.
He also added that despite the scale of the upcoming updates, Apple’s management is confident that users will like these updates. “Despite the risks associated with major interface changes, Apple’s top managers are confident that users will like the new look of the operating systems. The point is to create something that will appeal to both the hundreds of millions of current users and potential customers that Apple expects to attract in the coming years,” Gurman said in a statement.
Apple executives believe the new interfaces will be “easier to use, faster to navigate, and easier to learn.” The updated software is also expected to pave the way for more radical hardware products, such as foldable devices and touch-screen Macs. By significantly changing the look of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, the developers are aiming to achieve some consistency across all of their platforms. Apple is also aiming to “adapt to an era in which AI assistants replace humans who work with apps all the time.”
