According to a recent report by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple is hard at work on its smart glasses, codenamed N50. The device will use Apple Intelligence to analyze the environment, but without augmented reality.

According to 9to5Mac, the company is set to create an analogue of Meta✴ glasses in collaboration with Ray-Ban. The model will have built-in microphones, speakers, and an AI assistant, but will likely remain without a camera due to privacy concerns. Although the device is not ready yet, the idea, according to Gurman, is for Apple Intelligence, a personal AI system, to interact directly with the gadget.
Apple originally planned to release augmented reality glasses, but their mass release has been delayed for several years. Instead, the company focused on a simpler solution – smart glasses that can collect data about the environment and provide information to the user.
Gurman also confirmed that Apple is continuing to develop AirPods with built-in cameras. Both devices are expected to launch around 2027. The cameras in the earbuds will be used for Visual Intelligence features, but details have not yet been revealed.
It is unclear whether Apple will allow its smart glasses to take photos. It was previously noted that the company may abandon this feature due to possible privacy issues. However, a final decision has not yet been made. If Apple’s plans are realized, its smart glasses could compete with the popular Ray-Ban Meta✴.
